There are lots of functions in Audacity; however, we are only focusing on a few in this very general introduction.  As we wrap up, it is worth highlighting some buttons on the toolbar that you may like to use.

The numbers at the top of the screen give you the elapsed time of the track.  The sliding control with an image of the speaker enables you to control speaker monitor volume.  The other controls are explained below.

Cut Button: Use this, delete or backspace to cut selected audio

Copy tool: Use this to copy selected audio

Paste Button: Use this to paste the selected/cut audio

Trim Outside Selection: This means cut everything you haven’t selected

Silence Selection: This will reduce the selected audio to silence

Undo: This acts just the same as it does in Microsoft Word

Redo: This acts just the same as it does in Microsoft Word

Zoom In: Magnifies your soundwave to help you perform a tighter edit

Zoom Out: Zooms out so you can see more of your project

Fit Selection in Window: Zoom right in on your selection so it fits into your window

Fit Project in Window: This enables you to see the complete timeline in the window
